Types of categories are only limited by collectors' imaginations and interests. I doubt if anyone could put together a

comprehensive list of categories, since just about any category can be refined to a more specific category. And, of course,

new categories are coming into vogue all the time. For example, we now have a Millennium category, Microbreweries,

and a Web Address category, etc. Still, the list below entails over 400 categories which are the most

common within the hobby.

With matchbooks being used for advertising so much less now, the two big categories that are still cranking them out are

Casinos and Cigarettes/Tobacco. Certainly, you can still find matchbooks being issued in other categories, but new issues in

some categories have disappeared altogether. For example, you're not going to find any new Hospital covers anymore! But,

always keep in mind, even if matchbooks were to stop being manufactured tomorrow...there are still billions out there! All

you have to do is...find them!
